Numerology and Vedic astrology are often mentioned together, and both can guide decisions about names, dates, career and relationships. But they use different inputs and answer slightly different questions.
How numerology works
Numerology works with numbers taken from your date of birth and your name. Your life path number (moolank and bhagyank in Indian numerology) describes your core nature, while your name number shows how you express yourself in the world.
Because it only needs a date and a name, numerology is quick, practical and especially useful for choices you can control: a baby name, a business name, a launch date or a lucky number.
How Vedic astrology works
Vedic astrology, or Jyotish, needs your exact date, time and place of birth to draw your Kundali. It looks at where the nine grahas sat in the twelve houses at your birth, and at planetary periods (dashas) and transits that unfold over time.
This makes astrology especially strong on timing: when to make a career move, when to marry, or how to understand a challenging phase such as sade sati.
Which one should you choose?
Choose numerology for names, dates and quick, practical guidance. Choose Vedic astrology for deeper questions about timing, marriage matching and life phases.
Many people benefit from both. A good consultant uses them together, along with palmistry or face reading, to build a fuller picture.
